Amit Soussana, an Israeli hostage released in November, has revealed in an interview with the New York Times that she was sexually assaulted at gunpoint by a Palestinian militant while held captive in Gaza, Reuters reports.
Soussana recounted the assault by the man guarding her, who identified himself as Muhammad, had put a gun to her forehead, beat her and dragged her to a child’s bedroom, where he forced her to commit a sexual act. Soussana’s account was consistent with statements she made to medical professionals shortly after her release.
This revelation follows reports from UN experts indicating “reasonable grounds to believe” that sexual violence, including rape, occurred during the attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7. Hamas has denied these allegations.
