Chinese President Xi Jinping met with business leaders from the United States as part of China’s efforts to encourage foreign investment amidst US-China tensions, CNBC reports.
The gathering took place during the annual China Development Forum (CDF), a premier event that draws top executives from multinational corporations worldwide. Notable attendees included prominent figures like Blackstone Founder Stephen Schwarzman, Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon, Bloomberg Chair Mark Carney and FedEx President Rajesh Subramaniam, according to state media. Concurrently, Chinese authorities hosted an “Invest in China Summit” and implemented regulatory reforms, such as easing data export requirements, to facilitate foreign business operations.
However, foreign businesses operating in China continue to face challenges stemming from geopolitical uncertainties, regulatory complexities, and a slowing economy. The ambiguity surrounding US-China relations, coupled with Beijing’s regulatory measures, has posed obstacles for foreign enterprises. Despite these challenges, both the US and Chinese governments are committed to addressing concerns and promoting economic cooperation.
