Donald Trump’s social media company Trump Media & Technology Group saw its shares surge over 50% on its first day of trading on the Nasdaq, CNBC reports.
The company’s merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp., which resulted in Trump Media, has contributed substantially to Trump’s personal wealth by adding nearly $4 billion to his net worth. However, there exists a discrepancy between the impressive market valuation of $2.5 billion and the company’s notably lower revenue performance, which reported less than $3.5 million in the first three quarters of 2023.
The success of Trump Media hinges largely on the performance of its flagship platform, the Truth Social app, which aims to provide an alternative to mainstream social media platforms to counter perceived censorship by major tech companies. The company’s shareholders are banking on the app’s potential to capture a significant market share and drive profitability.
