US Sues Apple Over Alleged iPhone Monopoly

The US Department of Justice and 16 state attorneys general have filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple, alleging that the tech giant has created an illegal monopoly in the smartphone market with its iPhone, stifling competition and innovation, Associated Press reports.

The lawsuit is part of the Biden administration’s efforts to enforce antitrust laws against corporate monopolies. The complaint targets Apple’s tightly controlled ecosystem around the iPhone and other products, known as the “walled garden.” This strategy has made Apple immensely profitable but has drawn scrutiny from regulators who see it as stifling competition. Apple disputes the claims, stating it will vigorously defend against them.

The lawsuit adds to existing legal challenges against Apple, including a case brought by Epic Games over its App Store policies. Apple’s business practices are under increasing scrutiny globally, with European regulators imposing fines and implementing new regulations aimed at promoting competition.
