The Israeli military conducted a raid on Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital, claiming it was a targeted operation based on intelligence suggesting the hospital was being used by senior Hamas leaders, Reuters reports.
The military stated that soldiers faced gunfire upon entry and responded with live fire, causing casualties and a fire within the hospital complex. The military claimed troops operated cautiously to avoid harm to patients and civilians.
Gaza’s Health Ministry reported casualties, including deaths and injuries, and accused Israeli forces of targeting hospital buildings. Hamas condemned the raid, accusing Israel of disregarding patients and medical staff.
The hospital has been a contentious site, with Israel alleging Hamas use and Palestinians accusing Israel of targeting health facilities.
