China Says Proposed US TikTok Ban ‘Not Fair’

The Chinese Foreign Ministry criticized a US bill aimed at forcing TikTok’s Chinese owner ByteDance to divest its US assets or face a potential ban, citing unfairness in using national security as justification to undermine other countries’ competitive advantages, Reuters reports.

The bill, passed by the US House of Representatives, is part of a series of actions taken by the US against perceived national security threats from China. China argues that such actions disrupt fair competition and international trade rules. Despite concerns raised by US legislators about TikTok’s handling of user data, China maintains there’s no evidence of security violations and accuses the US of abusing its power.

TikTok’s CEO Shou Zi Chew has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to not share US user data with the Chinese government.
