US Says Israel Agrees to Six-Week Ceasefire Deal, Waiting on Hamas Response

Israel has reportedly endorsed a proposed cease-fire framework, leaving the decision now in the hands of Hamas as talks are scheduled to resume in Egypt, according to a senior US official, Associated Press reports.

Israel has shown signs of accepting the proposed agreement, which includes a six-week cease-fire period and the release of vulnerable hostages by Hamas, such as the sick, wounded, elderly, and women. However, it now falls on Hamas to respond to the terms during the upcoming talks in Cairo.

International mediators have been tirelessly working to secure a pause in the conflict ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, fearing a potential famine looming over hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in northern Gaza.
