The US Supreme Court unanimously ruled to reinstate Donald Trump to the 2024 presidential primary ballots, rejecting state attempts to bar him over the Capitol riot, Associated Press reports.
The ruling comes a day before Super Tuesday primaries, determined that states cannot use a post-Civil War constitutional provision to disqualify presidential candidates, asserting that such power resides with Congress. Trump celebrated the decision as a “BIG WIN FOR AMERICA!!!” on social media.
The decision ends efforts in several states, including Colorado, Illinois, Maine, and elsewhere to exclude Trump from the ballot. The case revolved around Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which bars individuals who have “engaged in insurrection” from holding office.
