The United States vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict, Reuters reports.
The resolution, drafted by Algeria, received support from thirteen council members, with Britain abstaining. This marks the third US veto since the conflict began in October.
The US argued that the resolution could undermine negotiations aimed at securing a ceasefire and the release of hostages held by Hamas. Instead, the US proposed an alternative resolution supporting a temporary ceasefire linked to the release of hostages and opposing a major Israeli ground offensive in Rafah.
