Hamas has for the first time since the beginning of the war in Gaza, admitted that it has suffered heavy losses in Israel’s offensive. A Hamas official estimates that it has lost 6,000 men in the war, while Israel claims to have killed at least 12,000 Hamas fighters, Reuters reports.
The ongoing violence has led to widespread destruction in Gaza, with much of the territory reduced to rubble. More than 28,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 85% of Gaza’s population displaced, according to the Hamas-controlled health authority in Gaza.
