The US military launched air strikes on more than 85 targets in Iraq and Syria associated with Iranian-backed militias and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in retaliation for the drone strike that killed three US troops in Jordan, Associated Press reports.
The strike targets included command and control headquarters, intelligence centers, rockets and missiles, drone and ammunition storage sites, connected to the militias or Tehran’s expeditionary unit, the IRGC’s Quds Force. US President Joe Biden indicated that there will be more strikes to come.
The US strikes did not directly target Iran or senior leaders of the Revolutionary Guard Quds Force within Iran’s borders. There were reports of casualties, but the exact impact remains unclear. Iran has denied involvement in the Jordan attack that resulted in the death of three US troops.
