Tesla is recalling nearly 2.2 million vehicles in the US due to small warning lights on the instrument panel, which fail to meet federal safety standards, Associated Press reports.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) discovered the problem during a routine safety audit, stating that the font size of brake, park, and antilock brake warning lights is smaller than federal safety standards, posing a risk of reduced readability and increased crash potential. The recall covers various models from 2012 to 2024 and will be addressed through an online software update.
Additionally, the NHTSA has upgraded its investigation into Tesla steering problems in over 334,000 Tesla vehicles to an engineering analysis, with drivers reporting loss of steering control and related accidents.
Tesla is also recalling over 1.6 million vehicles in China for problems with automatic steering and door latch controls.
