Climate Activists Throw Soup at the ‘Mona Lisa’ Painting

Two climate activists disrupted the Louvre Museum in Paris by throwing soup at the glass protecting the “Mona Lisa” and advocating for a sustainable food system, Associated Press reports.

The activists, associated with the “FOOD RIPOSTE” group, criticized the agricultural system and highlighted the challenges faced by farmers. The activists demanded the French government fulfill climate commitments and ensure access to healthy food for the public and fair income for farmers.

The Louvre employees responded by covering the painting with black panels and evacuating the room. The activists were arrested by Paris police.

The incident occurred amid ongoing protests by French farmers seeking improved remuneration, reduced bureaucracy, and protection against cheap imports.
