UN Chief Calls for Resumed Funding of Palestinian Aid Agency

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urges countries to resume funding for the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza, following accusations that a dozen of its employees took part in a Hamas attack on Israel, Associated Press reports.

Guterres warned that the suspension of funding could affect aid to over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza facing a humanitarian crisis. He emphasizes that the accused employees will face consequences, but the broader agency and its crucial services must not be penalized.

The US, the largest UNRWA donor, and eight other countries, including Britain, Germany, and Italy, have already suspended funding, representing nearly 60% of UNRWA’s budget.
