Israeli troops allegedly opened fire on a crowd of Palestinians gathering for humanitarian aid in Gaza City, resulting in at least 20 deaths and dozens of injuries, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Associated Press reports.
Witnesses claim the shooting occurred during the distribution of food at a roundabout, with footage showing people fleeing and carrying aid boxes as shots rang out. The Israeli military is said to be investigating the incident.
A number of aid agencies distribute food and other supplies in Gaza and it was not immediately clear which one was operating in the area. The UN refugee agency and World Food Program stated they were not involved.
