North Korea Says It Tested Nuclear-Capable Underwater Drone

North Korea announced that it has tested a nuclear-capable underwater attack drone in response to a joint naval exercise by South Korea, the United States, and Japan, Associated Press reports.

The underwater drone, first tested in 2023, is part of North Korea’s expanding arsenal of nuclear-capable weapons. The drone is supposedly designed to destroy naval vessels and ports, and was tested in the country’s eastern waters.

This move follows North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s recent declaration that his country will abandon the goal of peaceful reunification with South Korea and redefine South Korea as its most hostile foreign adversary.

South Korea denounces the tests as a violation of UN Security Council resolutions and a threat to peace on the Korean Peninsula and globally.
