Iran fired missiles at what it claimed were Israeli “spy headquarters” in Irbil, Iraq, killing four civilians and injuring six and at Islamic State targets in northern Syria, Associated Press reports.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards stated they targeted Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, in the Kurdish region of Iraq, and also launched ballistic missiles at Islamic State operations in Syria.
Israel did not immediately acknowledge the attack, and the US condemned the missile strikes, emphasizing that they undermine Iraq’s stability.
The strikes occurred amid heightened tensions in the region, with Iranian-backed militias in Iraq launching frequent drone attacks in retaliation for US support of Israel.
