The US military has conducted additional airstrikes in Yemen targeting a Houthi-controlled radar site, the strike followed a series of coordinated US and British airstrikes against Houthi rebels, Associated Press reports.
The initial strikes on Friday hit 28 locations, with more than 60 targets, in response to the rebels’ drone and missile attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. The latest strike targeted a radar site using Tomahawk land attack missiles.
US President Joe Biden warned of further strikes if the attacks persisted. The US Navy issued a warning to American-flagged vessels to avoid areas around Yemen in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
The Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, condemned the US strikes and vowed retaliation. The US emphasized self-defense, while Russia criticized the strikes as armed aggression. The conflict adds to tensions in a region already dealing with Israel’s war in Gaza.
