The US and British militaries have conducted a large-scale retaliatory strike on over a dozen sites in Yemen controlled by the Iranian-backed Houthis militia group, Associated Press reports.
The strike involved warship- and submarine-launched Tomahawk missiles and fighter jets, targeting over 60 sites, including command-and-control nodes, munitions depots, launching systems, production facilities, and air defense radar systems.
US President Biden stated that the strikes were in response to Houthi attacks on international maritime vessels in the Red Sea, including the use of anti-ship ballistic missiles, endangering personnel, civilian mariners, and trade.
The Houthis have threatened retaliation, claiming the strikes killed five of their troops and wounded six. Russia has requested an emergency UN Security Council meeting on the strikes.
