South Africa has accused Israel of committing genocidal acts against Palestinians in Gaza during hearings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Reuters reports.
South Africa called for an emergency suspension of Israel’s military campaign, alleging that Israel has a “genocidal intent” against the population of Gaza. Israel rejects the accusations, calling them baseless and accuses South Africa of supporting Hamas.
The ICJ is expected to rule on possible emergency measures later this month but will not decide on the genocide allegations at this time. The politically charged case has sparked global attention, with both sides organizing marches and rallies in The Hague.
