NASA is delaying its mission to land American astronauts on the moon by about a year, from late 2025 to September 2026, due to technical challenges associated with the Artemis program, Bloomberg reports.
The Artemis program relies on multiple spacecraft developed by companies like SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Lockheed Martin. Technical challenges, including issues with Lockheed’s Orion capsule heat shield and internal components, as well as difficulties with developing new spacesuits and Elon Musk’s Starship rocket.
The precursor mission to send humans to deep space and around the moon is also delayed, now planned for September 2025 instead of November 2024.
