The GDL train drivers’ union has launched a three-day nationwide rail strike in Germany, starting Wednesday and continuing until Friday evening, disrupting train services across the country, Reuters reports.
The union initiated the strike over a dispute over a pay and working hours dispute, demanding a reduction in working hours and a pay increase. National rail operator Deutsche Bahn is only operating emergency timetables during the strike, impacting the travel plans of millions.
The strike adds to Germany’s economic challenges, which coincides with ongoing farmers’ protests, triggered by proposed subsidy reductions, causing further road traffic disruptions.
