Trump Asks US Supreme Court to Overturn Colorado Ruling Barring Him From Ballot

Former President Donald Trump has appealed to the US Supreme Court to overturn a ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court that barred him from the state’s primary ballot, Associated Press reports.

The Colorado court’s decision, based on Section 3 of the 14th Amendment which prohibits those who “engaged in insurrection” from holding office, disqualified Trump as a presidential candidate for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

Trump’s legal team argues against the application of Section 3, claiming that the Colorado decision could disenfranchise millions of voters and set a precedent that may affect other states.

The appeal follows a similar decision by Maine’s Secretary of State, barring Trump from the Maine ballot over the same incident. Both cases are on hold pending appeal outcomes.
