Michigan’s Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal seeking to remove former US President Donald Trump from the state’s primary election ballot, Associated Press reports.
The court’s decision contrasts with a divided Colorado Supreme Court ruling that found Trump ineligible for the presidency due to his role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, marking the first use of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to disqualify a presidential candidate.
The Michigan court’s 4-3 Democratic majority upheld the Republican Party’s right to place anyone on the primary ballot. The court did not address whether Section 3 would disqualify Trump in the November election.
