Maine Bars Donald Trump From 2024 State Ballot

Maine’s Democratic Secretary of State Shenna Bellows has removed former US President Donald Trump from the state’s presidential primary ballot under the Constitution’s insurrection clause, Associated Press reports.

This move follows a similar ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court, which temporarily removed Trump from the ballot under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. The clause bars individuals who have engaged in insurrection from holding office.

Bellows stated that Trump’s role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack violated Section 3, leading to her decision. The Trump campaign plans to appeal Bellows’ decision to Maine’s state courts, but the final decision is likely to rest with the US Supreme Court.
