At least 20,000 deaths, including 8,000 children and 6,200 women, have been killed in the Gaza Strip during the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas that began more than 10 weeks ago, according to Palestinian officials, Al Jazeera reports.
The United Nations Security Council has postponed a vote on a resolution that aims to reduce Israeli control over humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza for the third time. The resolution has reportedly been modified to soften the call for a ceasefire to avoid another potential veto from the US.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh visited Egypt in a rare diplomatic move amid hopes for potential truce negotiations. However, the US and Israel oppose a ceasefire, instead supporting temporary pauses and the release of captives held by Hamas.
