Ukraine’s Zelensky Visits Argentina in a Bid to Win Support from Latin America

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attended the swearing-in ceremony of Argentina’s new president Javier Milei during his first official trip to Latin America, Associated Press reports.

Milei, who ran on a pro-Western foreign policy platform, welcomed Zelensky and presented him with a menorah as a gift. Milei has expressed distrust of Moscow and Beijing and offered to host a summit between Ukraine and Latin American states.

Zelensky also met with leaders from Cape Verde, Paraguay, Ecuador, and Uruguay, emphasizing the importance of Latin American support in the war for Ukraine’s freedom and democracy.

The Ukrainian leader is set to meet with US President Joe Biden in Washington to discuss a $110 billion wartime funding package for Ukraine, although it is entangled in debates over US immigration policy and border security.
