Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a “frank” conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán during the inauguration of Argentine President Javier Milei, Reuters reports.
The discussion centered around European affairs, particularly Orbán’s opposition to Ukraine’s entry into the European Union (EU) and his threat to block EU financial support for Kyiv.
The EU summit on December 14-15 will decide whether to initiate membership talks with Ukraine. However, Orbán opposes this move and has threatened to block 50 billion euros in budget support for Ukraine through 2027.
Despite Hungary’s opposition, Zelensky and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed hope for a positive decision on both financial allocation and EU accession talks.
