Michigan Teen Gets Life in Prison for Oxford High School Shooting

A Michigan judge sentenced teenager Ethan Crumbley to life in prison without parole for killing four students and injuring others in the 2021 Oxford High School shooting, Associated Press reports.

Crumbley, who was 15 at the time of the shooting, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and terrorism after bringing a gun to school. The judge emphasized that the shooting was planned in advance and described it as “execution” and “torture.”

The defense urged a chance for rehabilitation, emphasizing Crumbley’s remorse and mental health care. However, the victims’ families argued against any possibility of parole, emphasizing the irreparable damage caused by the tragedy.

Crumbley’s parents, Jennifer and James Crumbley, are awaiting trial on involuntary manslaughter charges for making a gun accessible at home.
