A man, shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is great), targeted and attacked passersby in Paris on Saturday night, killing a German tourist with a knife and injuring two others, according to France’s Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, AP News reports.
The assailant, a 25-year-old French citizen, had spent four years in prison for planning a violent offense and expressed anguish about Muslim deaths in Afghanistan and the Palestinian territories, claiming that France was an accomplice.
The assailant, who left prison in 2020, was under surveillance and receiving psychiatric treatment. Police subdued him with a taser, preventing further casualties.
