The US House of Representatives has voted 311-114, with 105 GOP lawmakers siding with Democrats, to expel Republican Rep. George Santos of New York after an ethics report on his conduct and federal indictments, AP News reports.
Santos, who had lied about his background, was indicted in May on multiple charges, including duping donors, stealing from his campaign, and lying to Congress, and will face trial next year in New York.
Santos becomes the sixth member in the chamber’s history to be ousted by colleagues and the third since the Civil War. The expulsion reduces the GOP’s majority to 221-213.
