Israel and Hamas Agree to Extend Truce for Two More Days

Israel and Hamas have agreed to extend their cease-fire for two more days, according to the Qatari government, as the initial four-day cease-fire was set to end on Monday, AP News reports.

The extension raises the prospect of a longer halt to the conflict and further exchanges of hostages held by Hamas for Palestinians imprisoned by Israel.

The current truce has seen the release of 58 hostages, including 39 Israelis and 19 foreign individuals, with 175 hostages potentially still held by militants.

Israel has stated it would extend the cease-fire by one day for every 10 additional hostages released. If Hamas does not agree to further releases, Israel intends to resume operations with “full force” once the current deal expires.
