The first images have emerged of 41 men trapped for over a week in a 4.5 km highway tunnel in the Uttarakhand state since it caved in on November 12, Reuters reports.
Rescue workers have communicated with the trapped men through an endoscopy camera pushed through a drilled pipeline. The men are reported to be safe with access to light, oxygen, food, water, and medicines.
A video showed the trapped men standing in a semi-circle wearing helmets and construction worker jackets, communicating with rescue workers.
The cause of the cave-in has not been disclosed, but the region is prone to landslides, earthquakes, and floods. Rescue efforts have been hindered by challenges in drilling through debris in the mountainous terrain.
