Republican presidential candidate Tim Scott has announced on Fox News his decision to drop out of the 2024 race, AP News reports.
The South Carolina senator, who entered the race in May, had struggled to gain traction in a race dominated by former President Donald Trump. He stated that voters had made it clear they were not supporting his candidacy at this time.
He is the second major candidate to exit the race, following former Vice President Mike Pence who suspended his campaign two weeks ago. Scott said he wouldn’t immediately endorse any remaining Republican rivals and ruled out serving as vice president.
Scott’s departure leaves Nikki Haley, Trump’s first United Nations ambassador and the former South Carolina governor, as the sole South Carolinian in the race.
