The first group of foreign passport holders and injured individuals from Gaza have been evacuated through the Rafah border crossing into Egypt, Reuters reports.
This evacuation was part of a deal brokered by Qatar and mediated by Egypt, Israel, and Hamas. The agreement allowed 81 wounded people and an initial list of 500 foreign passport holders to leave Gaza.
These evacuations follow more than three weeks of a total blockade of Gaza by Israel. However, these limited evacuations are not expected to result in a wider, unrestricted opening of the crossing.
