Hamas has released two elderly Israeli women held hostage in Gaza, but their husbands remain in captivity, AP News reports.
Yocheved Lifshitz, 85, and Nurit Cooper, 79, have been released and transferred through the Rafah crossing into Egypt. However, some 200 people still remain hostages in Gaza, including the two women’s husbands, ages 83 and 84.
The death toll in Gaza continues to rise as Israeli airstrikes continue to cause widespread destruction. The US has urged Israel to delay the potential ground invasion to allow for more hostage negotiations with Hamas.
A third aid convoy from Egypt entered Gaza to provide relief to the Palestinian population suffering from food, water, and medicine shortages.
