House Republicans have dropped Rep. Jim Jordan as their nominee for House speaker after he failed on a third ballot, AP News reports.
This decision was made during a closed-door session following Jordan’s unsuccessful third attempt to become the speaker.
Last week, Jordan failed to secure the 217 necessary votes and repeatedly lost against Democratic nominee Hakeem Jeffries with 200-212, 199-212 and finally 194-210.
Jordan was backed by former US President Donald Trump but faced opposition from more centrist Republicans who viewed him as too extreme.
