Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior opposition figure Benny Gantz have formed a war-time Cabinet to address the ongoing conflict with Hamas, AP News reports.
Although opposition leader Yair Lapid was also invited to join the new Cabinet, he had not yet immediately responded to the offer.
Israeli retaliatory bombardments have caused widespread destruction and casualties in Gaza and the territory’s only power plant has run out of fuel.
The situation has created a dire humanitarian crisis as essential supplies like food, water, fuel, and medicine are blocked from entering Gaza.
The Israeli military is under increasing public pressure to launch a ground offensive, which could lead to even higher casualties.
