Israel has launched extensive airstrikes and imposed a blockade on Gaza, halting the delivery of food, fuel and other supplies to the region, AP News reports.
The death toll from the conflict has reached nearly 1,600 on both sides after Hamas militants launched a surprise attack last weekend.
Israel had been finding more bodies from Hamas’ weekend attack, including 100 bodies in Be’eri, a tiny farming community in southern Israel.
Hamas claims to hold more than 130 captured Israelis and has pledged to execute one hostage any time Israel targets civilians in Gaza without warning.
Israel has called up 300,000 reservists following the attack, raising concerns about the potential for a ground assault into Gaza.
