Americans came together to celebrate the 99th birthday of former US President Jimmy Carter over the weekend, Reuters reports.
The White House marked the occasion with a wooden cake display adorned with 39 candles, signifying Carter’s status as the 39th US president.
Carter, a Democrat who served from 1977 to 1981, is currently under hospice care after declining further medical treatment in February.
Born on October 1, 1924, Carter has lived longer after leaving office than any other former president in US history.
