Brazil’s Supreme Court has sentenced Aécio Lúcio Costa Pereira to 17 years in prison for his involvement in the storming of government offices on January 8th, AP News reports.
Pereira was found guilty of multiple crimes, including criminal association, staging a coup, violent attack on the rule of law, qualified damage, and destruction of public assets.
Pereira was arrested on the day of the uprising, which aimed to forcefully reinstate former President Jair Bolsonaro to office.
