Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney has announced that he will not seek reelection in 2024, AP News reports.
Romney managed to secure the 2012 Republican GOP nomination for president and has served a term as Massachusetts governor.
Romney, 76, emphasized the need for a younger generation of leaders to address the country’s challenges.
He suggested that both President Joe Biden, 80, and former President Donald Trump, 77, should step aside given their age.
Romney was the sole Republican member of Congress to vote in favor of convicting Trump in both of his impeachment trials.
