US to Send Controversial Depleted-Uranium Rounds to Ukraine

The Pentagon has announced a new security assistance package worth $175 million to Ukraine, which includes depleted uranium rounds for Abrams tanks, Reuters reports.

This marks the first time the US is sending these controversial armor-piercing rounds to Ukraine, which remains a topic of debate due to potential health risks.

The aid package also includes anti-armor systems, tactical air navigation systems, and additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).

The announcement coincides with US diplomat Antony Blinken’s visit to Kyiv in a show of support during Ukraine’s counteroffensive.
