The BRICS economic coalition of emerging markets has decided to extend invitations to six countries to join the bloc, Reuters reports.
The BRICS alliance currently consists of the five member states of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The six new member countries include Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina, and the United Arab Emirates.
The issue of expanding the BRICS bloc has been a central topic of discussion during the 15th BRICS summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
While all BRICS members have expressed support for enlargement, there were different opinions on how fast and to what extent.
