Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Survives No-Confidence Vote

The government of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has successfully defeated a no-confidence motion in parliament, France 24 reports.

Opposition lawmakers, who brought the motion due to ethnic violence in Manipur state, walked out of the chamber during the debate.

The opposition had criticized Modi’s handling of the Manipur violence, which has claimed the lives of over 152 people.

Modi rebuked the opposition and the motion was dismissed by the government as a political gimmick ahead of the next general election.
