Poland, Hungary Ban Grain Imports from Ukraine

On Saturday, Poland and Hungary announced a ban on grain imports and other food from Ukraine to protect the local agricultural sector, Reuters reports.

After Russia blocked Ukraine’s Black Sea ports, large quantities of Ukrainian grain ended up in Central Europe.

The Ukrainian grain was cheaper than the domestic grain available on the market, which depressed the price for local farmers.

“We understand that Polish farmers are in a difficult situation, but we emphasize that Ukrainian farmers are in the most difficult situation right now.”
