On Saturday, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was evacuated from an election rally after what appeared to be a smoke bomb was thrown at him, reports Reuters.
A loud explosion was said to have been heard when Kishida was about to speak and the area was filled with smoke, but no one was injured.
The 24-year-old suspect who threw the metal pipe-like object was immediately arrested at the scene.
The incident comes less than a year after the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was shot with a homemade gun last July.
