In an interview, French President Emmanuel Macron urged Europe to not get dragged into a confrontation between China and the US over Taiwan, reports Politico.
Macron wants Europe to develop “strategic autonomy,” and become a “third superpower,” with its own foreign policy similar to China regarding Ukraine.
He said Europe must reduce its dependency on the US and not become “America’s followers” and get caught up in crises that are “not ours”.
The interview took place following a three-day visit to China, together with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
