On Wednesday, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-Wen met with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in California to improve US-Taiwan ties, reports CNN.
It is the second meeting between Tsai and a high ranking US lawmaker in the span of a year. Last August, she also met with then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
In response to the meeting, China has launched a three-day “joint patrol and inspection” operation in the Taiwan Strait, including an aircraft carrier group.
