On Thursday, the Geological Survey of India said that 5.9 million tonnes of lithium reserves have been found in Jammu and Kashmir.
Lithium is a key component in rechargeable batteries found in gadgets like smartphones, laptops and electric cars.
India now has the sixth largest lithium reserves in the world, behind Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Australia, and China.
As of January 2023, the total identified lithium reserves in the world stand at 98 million tonnes, according to the US Geological Survey.
